The identity of FontanaArte, its history, is brought into focus through the work of people of great intuition and vision. First among them is Luigi Fontana, who founded a company in 1881 that produced and marketed plate glass. At the time, plate-glass windows were a novelty in Italy and Fontana was one of the first businesses to introduce this cutting-edge material into the country, revolutionising architectural space with the idea of transparency based on the modern triad of air, sun, and light. FontanaArte was born out of this glass-working enterprise in 1932: a company division specialised in the creation of artistic elements in glass. Its mastery of “all the fine production processes of glass and crystal”, as written large in advertising materials, and the installation of the most modern technology, including a furnace to bend large sheets of flat glass and a continuous silvering unit, one of the first in Italy, give an idea of the industrial importance of the expressive potentials of glass championed by Luigi Fontana since the beginnings of FontanaArte.

The history of Rotaliana is the history of an ancient territory, steeped in tradition, beauty and mystery. In this territory, nature and human talent have come together and challenged each other for centuries in the continuous pursuit of a balance of light and shade through deep gorges and clear waters.
Since 1989, this history has placed the spotlight of Rotaliana Srl on new requirements in design and people's wellbeing, initially in its own territory and then quickly spreading to beyond national borders.
Lighting solutions
In all Rotaliana projects, there is a small or large amount of “lighting” quality that is able to perceive and reveal new solutions for everyday life. Realism and experimentation are the key factors, drawn from the development polices of its homeland Trentino, which have enabled the company to grow while respecting environmental and social sustainability and the cultural rigour that drives research and training.

Lighting solutions created by Rotaliana are the outcome of continuous dialogue with designers from very different backgrounds, both cultural (architects, designers and artists) and geographical (Italy, Japan, Korea and Sweden). The epic srl brand PLH was born in 2006 to meet the customer’s tailor-made customization requirements for products that didn’t get the proper design development for years: switches.
The use of solid materials, ergonomics, design and primitive shapes, craftsmanship, knowledge and research of materials and collaboration are the key aspects of PLH on which wired and wireless devices have been developed over time through 6 different collections as well as a big part of custom production that still represents the core business of the Company.
MakeUp is the first product marketed by epic srl developed by the Centro Stile and the Epic Technical Office in collaboration with Alessandro Gaja Design, the Corelli Technical Design Studio for the electrical design and with the Technical Office of some certified Electric Installation Companies for the assembly and assembly systems.
After the first one, five more wired collections , have been added, some of them internationally awarded: Skin, Slim, Neo, Keyboard e 24k, products that differ in shape, material and usability, always following the notions of research and development of the materials and their treatments. For this reason, the strength of solid collaboration is a key feature of the brand: several cross-sector companies guarantee the best quality and continuous innovation in the production and manufacture of materials such as wood, metal and glass.
Along with the evolution of technology as well as the internal development of wired products, new wireless products have come to light. The PLH Aria system consists of control devices and connection interfaces with registered design and ‘patent pending’ technology.
