The invention of real slabs, paper thin, flexible and elastic, called "Slate lite", is a completely accidental story. In the 1970s and 1980s, Gernot Ehrlich was a shabby tabletop manufacturer, through a process of slicing the slabs and sticking to a wooden board below. During this period, Gernot Ehrlich is a professional shale producer and holds about 80% of the world's shale table.

In one repair of a broken desk, he accidentally discovered that the tabletop he produced could be broken up into very thin slabs of stone, which still had enough of the color of the original stone.

In 2002, R & D GmbH was founded in Germany by Gernot Ehrlich, with the mission of developing more diverse types of natural stone products and launching a worldwide product line called " Slate-lite ". Up to now, Marcus Ehrlich, Gernot's son, along with Jan Hofmann has launched slate-lite products available in more than 20 countries around the world.

Eco-Stone is a super flexible, ultra-thin veneer with cotton backing. Eco-Stone is environmentally friendly due to its extremely low ice content. The natural material flooring makes it easy to cut and paste on a variety of surfaces, allowing for extensive application on a variety of furniture.
