Advantages and disadvantages of water and oil paints

“There are lots of paint patterns and you can get and some poster boards. Try them out and check how much coating they have and how they spread on the surface; if they are easy to remove when they dry.” said paint specialist Sarabeth Asaff South.

While browsing pictures or reading information online will give you general ideas when to use paint. However, only when you try a paint color on the space you want can you know exactly how it works.

Water paint

Most wall paints today are water-based paints, mainly because it's easy to use. Advantages of water paints:

- No need to mix with any other substances when using.

- No fungus grows.

- Low volatile VOC content should be safe for users and friendly with the environment.

- Can be used on many different materials such as wall, wood, plastic, metal surface, glass, ...

- Color durable over time.

Disadvantages of watercolor paint:

- The downside of water-based paints is that there is quite a bit of paint, but if used in environments with high humidity, long-drying paint affects product quality.

Oil paint

Oil paint is used on most surfaces and is rated for high strength and rich finish. However, the scent is quite heavy so it can be overwhelmed and difficult to wash off with water.

Advantages of oil paints:

- High gloss.

- Good dust holding ability as well as scratch-resistant for effective surface.

- High rust resistance for metal surfaces.

- Has a stable color fastness over time.

Disadvantages of oil paints:

- By nature, oil paint is not used for mural painting, so it is easy to peel off layer after a while.

- Has a strong odor, is not safe for the user and not friendly to the environment.
